Varanasi has two "burning ghats", where families will bring deceased loved ones to be cremated (at least, those wealthy enough to afford the rather expensive wood that is required). Dying and being cremated in Varanasi is an aspiration for many observant Hindus. After the cremation, the ashes are simply dumped into the river. The man in this photo is a Hindu renunciant. This photo is one of the few in which I took advantage of Photoshop's capabilities to produce an unconventional image.
